Dog Obedience Class
Suncoast Humane Society offers dog obedience courses periodically. Attendees are taught the basic exercises needed to become a “Canine Good Citizen.” This includes walking on leash, sit, down, stand, stay and come when called. The classes are designed for dogs 5 months of age and older.
“Canine Good Citizen” is a program of the America Kennel Club (AKC). It is designed to establish responsible dog ownership. It certifies graduates of the training that have the behaviors needed to be reliable members of their families and communities. A 10-step Canine Good Citizen test will be offered on the 8th week of the course. The evaluation includes Accepting Friendly Strangers, Walking Through a Crowd, Reaction to Other Dogs and Distractions, Supervised Separation, and Grooming. Handlers and canines with passing scores will receive a certificate from the AKC.
