New Visiting & Admitting Hours

06/25/2009 - Phil Snyder

As of 6/14/09 we will be closed on Sunday and Monday.  To help adjust with this change, and still provide convenient hours for the public we are extending Saturday hours and increasing visiting and adoption hours Tuesday thru Friday.

We receive nearly 6,000 visitors at our animal care center annually.  This year, to date, we have adopted 379 cats and kittens and 326 dogs and puppies into new homes.  We take in over 4,500 animals each year.  Currently, we are providing shelter and care for over 250 animals, with another 60 under foster home care.

"The economy is taking a toll on everyone", says Phil Snyder, Executive Director.  "We are operating with the minimum staff needed to provide quality care for the animals and to maintain our programs and services.  We are all working hard to promote the needs of the orgainization and to raise the money neede to keep us going.  I just hope everyone recognizes the importance of having a humane society like Suncoast in our community and responds to the needs which keep us going."

The important community programs that we provide include a Preventive Health Care Clinic, offering affordable vaccinations and other services for the public's animals.  We also provide low cost Spay/Neuter surgeries for pets belonging to qualifying families on low or government subsidized income.  Our Pet Pantry Program supplies pet food for pets belonging to families in need, through a few local church food banks and Meals on Wheels.  Thrift Stores in Englewood, North Port and Venice continue to offer quality donated household golds and other merchandise at bargain prices.

The Suncoast Humane Society has a very important mission; to reduce the number of homeless animals and improve the quality of both, human and animal life.  We are confident that our community will support that mission, especially through these tough times.
